The problem
Ocelots are valued for their skin, attracting heavy interest from hunters and poachers. The skins are turned into elaborate decorations and clothing as seen in the picture to the right. Many of the areas ocelots are found in are very rural, and it's difficult to enforce poaching laws. Currently the Texas population
has fewer than 50 ocelots. The U.S. and Mexico first attempted a recovery plan in 1990.
